Territory War

In classical chess, the goal is to capture the opposing king. However, in real life, individual battles often don’t decide the war. Sometimes, it’s more important to gain ground or occupy certain territories.

Our chess variants in the “Territory War” category are inspired by exactly this observation. In these games, you don’t have to capture the opposing king to win. In fact, in many missions the king isn’t even present. Instead, the goal is to occupy specific territories.

These territories are marked in blue on the chessboard. You can “occupy” them by placing a chess piece on them. If all blue squares are occupied by your pieces, you win the game.

Of course, you can still win by capturing all your opponent’s pieces. So you must still be careful not to accidentally sacrifice all your pieces in your attempt to seize the territories. What’s the best strategy to gain the positional advantage?
